Clean business: cut protection tape for the sanitary area.

Customer project for Kaldewei: so that the sealing foil keeps tight.

Kaldewei is one of the premium manufacturers for bathtubs, shower surfaces, washbasins and more. In addition to very high quality and design standards, the manufacturer is known for its special proceunique to elaborately enamel steel bathtubs. Of course, it didn't fit in at all that there were frequent complaints due to quality defects in accessory products. BUCK found a remedy.

Water damage used to be pre-programmed.

The background: During the renovation of silicone joints on Kaldewei bathtubs, it had repeatedly happened that craftsmen inevitably damaged the sealing foil under the tub when replacing the silicone joint because the protective products used could not withstand the sharp knife. Water damage and recourse claims were thus practically pre-programmed.

As a result, Kaldewei had tested a number of cut protection belts made of different materials and in various designs. But none met the company's high-quality requirements. Kaldewei finally became aware of us via our website. Because there, it could be read that BUCK also develops cut protection materials.

The Goal: Better protection and easier handling.

After the first, promising contacts, Kaldewei commissioned us to develop a new cut protection tape. The specification: It should not only offer greater protection against the sharp knife blades but also be easier to handle at the same time.

Based on our many years of experience, we soon decided on a suitable knitting machine and the most promising material: a knitted fabric made of high-modulus fiber and stainless steel wire. With this, we started the first knitting trials. Using our unique BUCK knitting process, we created a highly robust flat-pressed knitted tube, which we were able to present to our customer for initial tests after just two weeks. The tests were successful right from the start. A unique feature of the project process: Even the first sample test corresponded to the final solution. We only made minor material optimizations during the project, which took just under three months.

"The best material we've ever had".

The new cut-resistant tape that Kaldewei now uses in all of the bathtubs it offers is better than its predecessors in several respects. Not only is the band extremely cut-resistant (it would even withstand a chainsaw!), but it is also remarkably user-friendly and smooth to install. In addition, injuries caused by protruding metal wires, as with stainless steel belts, are also a thing of the past. Another decisive advantage for the processor: The cut protection tape protects the foil without damaging the knife blade - which can easily happen with stainless steel tape.

To date, thanks to the new cut protection tape from BUCK, there has been no complaint due to a damaged sealing foil. The seals at wall and floor transitions and connection and expansion joints are reliably protected when the silicone joints are cut out and renewed. Kaldewei is thrilled: "This is the best material we've ever had."
